SO BORING

Hey gang,

Its been nine days since a new post… no new film drops on the horizon (that I’m aware of) so, I thought it might be a good time to chitchat, do some catch up, get the lay of the land, fight people in the comments… you know the drill.

Customs

Sage Pillar will be here in two in less than a week. She’s currently a brunette, so I made a new costume for her to match her new look. If anyone wants a custom with her, or make a generous donation to have some content made with her, hit me up (Photo is from Intruder Tape 07)

London Evans will also be coming back to town in August, so, reach out if you wanted a custom with her as well. (Photo is from Intruder Tape 06)

Dakota Moon

I recently have discussed potentially working with Dakota Moon in the near future. As of now the plan would be to make her an original character. If you would like more updates regarding this project, please sign up to the Dakota Newsletter. If you potentially wanted a custom or to fund specific content / scene in my upcoming film with her for a generous donation, hit me up.

Upcoming LoFi

My next LoFi release will star Constance in a sequel to her previous LoFi film LoFi Tape #05. Lady Arachnid is in and out of an induced chloroform coma after having been kidnapped by the Intruder. She only wakes up to various sexual assaults only to be put out cold again. The Intruder attempts to break her will, as she begs even for the essentials like water, in trade for sexual favor.

The film will most likely come out in August (No promises).

SHL Updates

Touching base with all of you. As you probably noticed all my recent releases have been LoFi films. Various situations caused this, which has been shared in my previous posts, but I assume most of you don’t read everything that I write (cause you have a life and I tend to write too much).

In general a series of situations knocked me off my usual process: last year being robbed by a studio and an actress / customer spending going on a downward slope across the genre (and world) / more recently health problems ultimately leading to the death of a close family member that made it impossible to work for over a month. That being said…

LoFi films that I had in the can have kept it so I have been able to keep editing and releasing films while I prepped for the future. And the future is almost here. I have been working on new costumes behind the scenes, talking to new talent, talking to some fan favorites and I am nearly ready to get back into some bigger production work.

I hope to release some bigger projects this fall/winter, pending things go as planned. Not ready to make any announcements about what those projects will be. But thank you all for your patience and support. I was hoping to get back on track sooner, but some of the setbacks earlier this year demanded that I slow down and spend some time with family.

With love,
DW

Still waiting for last Rye-UK video. So sad it will be really last. Uk produced the best videos in this genre. At least for me. After that, I can die as a happy man.

I just want to say, thank you to this community for everything. It’s been so sad to see the genre die but I guess there’s a time for everything. Thank you to SHL for trying to keep this alive and I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors as well. It’s abundantly clear you’re the only one trying to keep this going but it seems dead

Yea… a “couple”. Most videos these days at sites like clip4sale, heroine movies, even last couple relieses from Rye… these aren’t SHIP movies, that’s just porn with costumes. Why I as a customer should pay 30, 40, 50 dollars for video, when you have billions and billions same videos all over the Internet for free. Just without the costumes.

Is it me or is this genre losing its spark? Why don’t producers just make their own content and the ones that do I apologise in advance maybe I haven’t seen it, but it seems like most are funded by customs and I’m starting to notice the peril elements are the same. It seems like the customs funded are by the same person/people. This genre is lacking in variety. Variety of actresses, variety of costumes, variety of peril.

It’s why I stopped watching NGC & Bluestone videos because everything about their choreography became identical in every video.

This is just my opinion, feel free to debate me on this. PS side note – I just don’t buy the low blows peril anymore they clearly have no effect on a woman so why would they hurt a superheroine…?

    3
    • SHL SHL says:

I don’t think there is a debate to be had on this, as you are correct. Most of the active SHIP producers today are running their business by a custom model. And as you can guess – customs being expensive means that people who can afford them dictate most of the content that is released.

Most producers don’t make their own content for a variety of reasons: its a financial risk to do so, they aren’t SHIP fetishist so they aren’t eager to explore personally a fantasy that isn’t theirs, the overall market is slowing down leading to this business becoming more and more of a risk and I think the biggest one is ‘comfort’. It is very uncomfortable to keep making your content different and try things in new ways. When something sells well, its comfortable to lean into the things you know will work, then face the wraith of 30 people who are going to very openly talk shit to you about how the film didn’t go the way they wanted it too. Customs remove all that, they remove the financial risk, they reduce the critism blowback cause it was the customers idea not their personal creativity, etc.

I think the only thing I would challenge you on is ‘notice the peril elements are the same. This genre is lacking in variety. Variety of actresses, variety of costumes, variety of peril.’ I mean… what would you suggest for variety in costumes and peril? What new actresses do you want to see that you haven’t?

I think it’s a lot easier to address the fact that there is a problem and a lot harder to create actionable plans to combat said problem. Like, how can anyone afford to be creative when sales are trending downward with no potential they will go back up? What kind of new peril would be universally considered exciting? Etc

The genre is obviously losing its spark. And the audience also seems to be lethargic about the interest in it. Maybe this SHIP (pun intended) wasn’t made to sail forever. Maybe we need a big pivot to fusing our genre with something adjacent, like anime or something to get renewed interest.

So sorry I forgot to completely return to this feed not realising my comment had created such a large thread.

I get the idea of Customs taking away the financial risk, but if you think about it the customs adhere to that one person’s fantasy of what they imagine a SHIP movie to be so regardless you’ll still get criticism from the general people about the films not going a certain way.

I need to breakdown this next part. Basically what I am saying in terms of variety of peril. It’s just the same. I see the same elements used in every other video. I’m not seeing a superheroine act heroic, she’s there to act cocky and be defeated and not just be defeated but have the desire to want to be defeated. That’s not a superhero. She goes into battle to be defeated, fucked and humiliated.. There’s nothing heroic about that. She shows up, doesn’t put much of a fight and goes down super easy then we as fans have to act like this is a grave situation for her as she’s being tortured etc whatever, but this isn’t a grave situation because she is seeking that danger. This is what I mean, I’m not entirely against the concept but to see it featured in every single film, that’s boring. Someone said recently its not SHIP it’s just porn with costumes and I wholeheartedly agree. What happened to a slow build of breaking a heroine physically and then mentally? You don’t even try anymore it’s just straight away be overwhelmed, give up and prepare to be fucked..

I don’t know that many adult actresses by name, but I throwback to a time where you had Halsey Rae, Amber Mcalester, Gigi Allens, Cassidy? the thick Blonde from the Supergirl doomsday series, Paris Roxanne, Layla Rylan as Sonique, Mia Malkova, Ashley Lane, and Alexis Monroe. You had variety to enjoy them all and they were all good and some of them did hardcore stuff some of them did soft core stuff that was the fun part. You don’t have that anymore nowadays its just one or two actresses mainly Coco being featured in every other film.

In terms of costumes, there’s loads of heroines out there that I feel haven’t been touched upon. I could be wrong and I haven’t seen any proper SHIP film featuring these characters so feel free to correct me. Don’t get me wrong I’m a big advocate for Wonder Woman, but not everyday WW & Supergirl, let’s switch it up. Sailor Moon, Black Canary, Vampirella, Pantha, Storm, Miss Marvel, Glory, Zatanna, Powergirl, Starfire, Emma Frost, Black Cat, Catwoman, Isis, Atom Eve, Artemis, Elektra, Huntress, Lady Blackhawk, Psylocke and many more.

It’s not that I dislike the peril elements, but the structure of these films need to change. A heroine, especially if she’s powerful should be treated as such and not just be dismantled or overwhelmed within a few minutes of her intro and then be fucked for the next 20 however long left of the film. Can a heroine fight out of a chloroform scene and not succumb to it with a tiny bit of struggle. Can a heroine who’s in a bearhug stop always trying to power out of it, like if your arms are free start hitting their face or if you’re desperate do a headbutt, just try something to break the hold. I would like to see the desperation of a heroine trying to overcome overwhelming odds rather than just give in to them. If a superheroine has abilities beyond just super strength can we see that on display? Can WW use her lasso more often and then be astonished when an opponent does not comply to its power.

Yeah that’s all for me I think

All this just kind of sounds like you want a custom. You have a hyper specific vision of what you want a movie to be and you’re not seeing it in the stuff that’s being made. I still don’t really agree that pivoting from custom-written movies to producer-written movies necessarily gets any closer to that vision being met.

I will say, the thing you said about a hero needing to feel heroic. Needing to establish heroism first with a slow build so the takedown actually means something. That is a viewpoint that I share and a thing I try to achieve in customs that I write, to varying degrees of success and failure over the years.

I would recommend giving your hand at writing a try. It’s harder than you’d think. And if you can’t afford a custom, get in on one of these things where people band together to fund customs. Though from other replies from you, it kind of sounds like you’re already doing that. Which is good!

Yeah I would like to put together a custom, but more than that I would prefer the idea of a group of us coming together with similar vision or not even similar but putting forth different ideas and elements to fund a custom, if a customer custom market is just the better option. As I said before, the fantasies of one person funding a custom seems to result in a fairly repetitive product. So yes if as SHL says a custom is the best option then let’s fund one. It’ll be cost effective for us if we all contribute.

In terms of the heroic status of the heroines in this genre, I’m just tired of seeing that same concept of them all having the desire to want to be defeated, humiliated and ultimately fucked. Nothing about that screams heroic to me.

            0

I have some thoughts on this.

      1. Freshness in Custom Productions
Whenever I fund and write a custom, I always try to add something new—whether that’s a plot point, a presentation style, or some other fresh element that we haven’t seen before. But after watching this genre for nearly 30 years and seeing hundreds of movies, I’m finding it harder to come up with new ideas. It’s a challenge.

One area where I don’t often innovate is in fight choreography. I don’t typically play-by-play dictate the choreography. However, there is a behind-the-scenes moment at the end of one of the Uncovered movies where Rock (the actor playing the villain) holds Kayla (the actress) in the air and talks through a move he’s going to do on her. It’s a fun moment to see, and it was a cool move. I imagine that’s how a lot of choreography happens—without Hollywood stunt coordinators, it’s up to the actors to figure out what they can and can’t do safely, and they bring their own creativity into it. People like Rock, Kayla, Coco, Dakota Moon, and others who have been around for a while are definitely better at this than fresh actresses who’ve never done anything like this before.

      2. The Challenge of Finding a Variety of Actresses
As for variety in actresses, I don’t think it’s a custom-vs-producer-made issue. I’ve now done countless customs where I start with a list of people from agencies that work with producers. But, one by one, there’s always a reason why they’re no good. Maybe they won’t travel, or they’re not interested in this kind of content (which is definitely a different gig than the usual), or they’re rumored to be problematic and a risky hire (which is a huge issue when you’re hiring an entire cast, crew, hotel, location, etc.).

I’ve tried so many times to get new people into the space, and I think I’ve only been successful once (with the first Uncovered—and even that was just someone from TBFE’s talent list who no one had picked before, not someone I personally found). Right now, I have a production in the queue with a new actress—everything was set, flight booked, the whole deal—but she just didn’t show up to her flight. I’m still super disappointed. I would have loved to see her in a superheroine role. (And no, I won’t name names because it’s not happening, and I’m not sure what went wrong.)

So, when it comes to the lack of new actresses, I don’t think it’s because custom funders aren’t being creative enough or just keep asking for the same people. I’ve put in hours and hours over the years searching for fresh talent and have almost nothing to show for it. And that’s just me. I don’t know what others have done. I think it’s mostly an issue with the adult film industry changing and evolving—particularly since COVID. A lot of actresses aren’t interested in doing these kinds of shoots when they can create their own content and cater to their own audience on platforms like OnlyFans or their own websites. The actresses we see over and over again, I think are the ones who specifically think these kind of movies are fun to be in (whether or not they actually dig the genre). I feel like this would be a thing with or without people funding customs.

      3. Are Things Really the Same?
ALL OF THIS TO SAY: I don’t entirely disagree with the sentiment that some elements of the genre can feel kind of samey after all these years. But I don’t think it’s just because the people funding the movies aren’t being creative enough. There are real-world boundaries dictated by the business that sometimes force things to look and feel a bit similar. Those constraints affect everyone, whether it’s a producer funding their own project or a customer funding a movie (though the actual producer is likely more connected to the challenges, which helps navigate them a little better).

At the same time, I kind of disagree that everything is the same. I still like and buy NGC every week because I genuinely enjoy it, but I can see how someone could say that everything from that one source feels a bit similar. I still love a lot of the old familiar content from producers like SHL, TBFE, Lucia, etc. But in the past couple of years, I’ve also found a lot of new stuff. For example:

The Superheroine Dream guy (who isn’t exactly new) has recently expanded his operation and is releasing more content, including what I think is his best movie since Perfect Defeat.

ALZI Productions has been putting out fun weekly content.

Lora and company at Lady2Fight have been doing some fun stuff worth checking out.

UltraHeroix has recently come onto my radar, and I’m excited about what they’re doing (though I think I’m way behind everyone else on that one. You all caught on way before I did).

I also recently got into Fall of Justice, a 3D animated short Patreon that was fun while it was active.

While I still enjoy content from the big names like SHL, TBFE, and Lucia, there’s definitely new stuff to be found. Are these newer producers as consistent as the big ones? Some yes, some no. But the fresh content is definitely out there. Huge kudos to SHL for doing the Creator Spotlight on this site. He’s done it a couple of times, and both times it highlighted projects I’d never seen or heard of before. There’s a lot of stuff like that out there.

TL:DR; I don’t completely disagree with the idea that some parts of the genre feel repetitive, but I don’t think it’s all about the funders not being creative. There are limitations imposed by the reality of the business that sometimes make things feel similar. And that impacts everyone, whether it’s a producer funding their own project or a customer funding a movie. But even with that, there’s still a ton of new and exciting content out there. You just need to look beyond the familiar.

I have always wanted to do a custom but frankly can not afford to do so, I feel like the same people are requesting customs over and over again, and I am probably in the minority but I actually prefer most of the peril to be in costume. I love DW vids but I really miss the old Heroine Peril days

        2
        • bbsucks says:

There is some truth to that. Customs are prohibitively expensive, which limits the pool of people who can afford them.

I think I can safely say that cheaper customs would allow more voices in the genre, which would probably result in more variety of content and liven up the place (even if the variety doesn’t extend to the pool of actresses).

The problem with that. Can movies be made cheaper? Where do you cut costs without sacrificing your own ability to pay rent and eat and stuff or sacrifice all quality to the point where the movies aren’t good? I don’t know the answer to this because I’m not a producer. But I suspect if it was an easy thing to do, someone would have done it already.

Probably not a popular suggestion because I know it’s a hot-button issue, but does AI help in any way? I’m not talking about fully AI-generated videos. More, like, the kind where AI starts to replace some of the more repetitive tasks (color correction or audio mixing). Or the kind that helps detect and respond to piracy. Stuff like that.

          0
          • SHL SHL says:

“I think I can safely say that cheaper customs would allow more voices in the genre” – I disagree

Most people can’t afford a $5,000 custom. And I will raise my hand to be added to that statistic. I couldn’t afford that.

And most of the people who couldn”t afford a $5,000 custom wouldn’t be able to afford a $2,000 one either.

What incentive would a producer who solely relies on customs have in offering cheaper customs that they would have to personally make up the difference for?

I can promise you if someone if charging you $5,000 for a custom – there ain’t a lot of wiggle room in the net profit. Thats probably %90 of the actual cost of said production.

And I can also promise – AI isnt going to color grade or edit your film and make it any notable difference cheaper.

Customs are expensive and they will only become more expensive as inflation goes up

            0
            • bbsucks says:

I think you might have misinterpreted my intent with that statement. I meant that 100% face value, in more of a magic wand-y way. Not actually grounded in reality.

What I was trying to say is that the price tag is what prevents a lot of new voices from entering the space. If customs only cost $100, more people would be ordering them, and we would have new voices in the space and that would be fun. Do I think it’s practical to sell customs for $100? Absolutely not. Do I think producers should only be charging $100 for customs? Once again, no.

That’s kind of what I was getting at with the second part. I think cheaper costs would open doors. I don’t have any clue how to make things cheaper. I do think there are probably ways for AI to save on some costs. Whether it’s enough to make a meaningful difference, I have no idea. You don’t seem to think so and you’re a producer while I am not. So I’d probably take more stock in your viewpoint, there.

Let me paraphrase what I poorly stated due to my ADHD tendency to ramble: If things were cheaper, more people would get into the mix, but I don’t think it can be cheaper.

                  2
            • bbsucks says:

Oh, I’m not saying they should just be cheaper and absolutely not saying producers should just eat costs to make them cheaper. I’m just saying the price tag is a barrier and if they were lower, there would be more people doing it. But I meant that in a “if Ferraris were cheaper, we’d all be driving them and that’d rule” sort of way.

And my point was that I also don’t think they can be much cheaper. I think maybe AI can help some, but looking at the quote for the last custom I ordered and mathing out what AI might be able to help reduce, it wouldn’t lower it that much. To your point from a prohibitively expensive amount to a slightly less but still prohibitively high amount.

I think back in the day things were probably cheaper AND since it was still new the producers had more freedom to explore (anyone can correct me if I am wrong on that). Now like most things it is cater where the dollars are.

I’d like to add a few thoughts of my own to what bbsucks has already spelled out.

Movie genres always have an inherent tendency to get somewhat repetitive, and SHIP is pretty narrowly defined genre to begin with. That most things have been done before, and that successful plots get remade again and again is obviously a problem of the movie industry in general. Just try to count all the action films which are basically variations of the “Die Hard” formula. Or to quote – with regards to Marvel films – Producer Guy from “Pitch Meeting”: “We usually do a sky beam…” It’s a rare thing that someone manages to come up with a truly original idea.

It is alsow worth noting that movies which try to do things a bit differently are often not especially well received. TBFE dared to produce a parody with “The Lair”, Lucia made “S.I.F.T.”, but they didn’t sell very well. When I had a film produced in which the heroine is not subdued by force but seduced by the villainess (“Liberation”), some people immediately called into question that it was a real SHIP film.

In any case there is no reason to believe that movies would show more variety if all producers made original films instead of customs. According to the rules of logic, it would make the producers less willing to take risks and try something new and more inclined to play it safe, because they would have to sell a lot more copies of a film to make a profit. And yes, some people (including me) have funded more than one custom, and these movies certainly share some elements because of personal preferences, which can be considered repetitive. But so do the original movies made by producers. Try to find a film by Mr. Woods without pantyhose for example… In fact, if I’m not mistaken, you’re contradicting your own line of argument by stating that you’ve “stopped watching NGC & Bluestone videos because everything about their choreography became identical in every video”. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think NGC’s videos aren’t customs. So…

Regarding your side note: That the anatomy of a woman is different from that of a man does not mean that it has “no effect” on her if you hit her down there. Please never try this. Maybe let a woman explain it to you.

Some NGC videos are customs. The percentage of how many are / or are not customs I do not know. But they seasonally do take on custom orders.

And I think his point about crotch hits – were that producers don’t often make them debilitating enough. So I think hes asking why bother doing them if you aren’t going to make them dramatic enough to have an impact.

I see. Thanks for clearing that up.
It’s still not plausible that occasional custom videos could be responsible for all their work looking the same to Yolho.
And I’m pretty sure that I got the meaning of his low blow comment right. Not that it’s very important (I hope).

Yeah you are right about my low blow comment. It’s not a major deal but yes I’d like to see it executed with the right goal in mind. There was a video way back called Vulnerability and the heroine’s weaker parts were specifically targeted to breaking her down. That I understand, but more time one or 2 attacks to her crotch is enough to put a superheroine down? I don’t buy it.

      Hey Yolho,

if you feel like that, why don’t you join our new discord server? We are a group of customers who try to work on scripts and find fellow contributors so it becomes less expensive for a single person to buy a custom. Here is the link if you are interested:

I’m pretty sure NGC, and especially Bluestone, repeat the same peril over and over because they are catering to a very specific niche of the genre.

Variety is a double edged sword. Many customs have certain fetishes which are a turnoff to a broader audience. You are making an already niche audience even more niche. If you are too creative, you risk missing out on what the average customer wants.

And there are other constraints. Giga has a bigger budget than the producers here but they almost never do carries and wrestling moves. They probably don’t have actors that can lift even tiny Japanese girls.
